Homemade Christmas

The family decided at some point this past year to do homemade christmas, and keep it lowkey. Most of us followed the rules, and most of us waited until the last minute. Mom still hasn't completely finished a few things, but we got to see the assorted makings of said gifts.

Several of the things I made were requests or suggestions, and a few I had to come up with because the recipients were being most unhelpful ("I have no ideas. I just want to get rid of stuff"). I didn't wait until the last minute to get started, but I was definitely finishing at nearly the last mintute.

Without further ado, here are 2010's homemade christmas gifts.

For Dad:
wristers - great for carpenters!
For Mom:

origami-style organizer.
it's a bit bigger than I thought it would be, but she loved it!
For C:
quilted laptop case, complete with a hula girl flap.
For H:
apron, with towel pocket.
(apparently I don't know how to get the photo to orient in the proper direction)
 For G:
apron, with towel pocket, and ribbon trim
(again with the sideways photo. my bad.)
For P:
fleece vest, in bright orange (and kind of big) to wear
during hunting season over his jacket
For each sibling&spouse:
record bowls. easiest re-purpose in the world. seriously.
And for each household:
knit christmas pickle ornament!

fudge sauce!!
we actually did homemade crafting sessions at school
the day before vacation.
I conveniently helped supervise the fudge sauce
(and recycled felt wool ornament) group.
I also got some great homemade gifts: a beautiful stained-glass hanging from C&H, a recipe holder from G&P, and several things from Mom & Dad, including a draft dodger and this fab little guy:

All in all, it was a good christmas!

  1. Kris Osgood mentioned your blog to me yesterday and, as I am a crafter in my fantasies but not in reality, I love it! Especially the homemade Christmas idea. the apron with the ribbon was my fave but I have a thing for aprons...I am looking forward to reading all your posts :)

  2. Thanks! I've been having fun with it. And I've been sporadically reading yours - you've been sharing some really great stories.
